Wall panelling can be used to conceal construction flaws, hide exposed wiring and can function as an accent feature which transforms the overall look of the decor. Most of the wall panelling materials are highly durable, easy to maintain and can be installed on the ceiling to give the space a decorative look. The wall panels are fixed by screwing them directly onto the wall or by installing them on a metal grid frame which is fixed on the wall. Here is a list of the best wall panelling materials that are available in the market.

Natural wood is one of the most popular wall panelling materials because it adds a good dose of warmth, richness and elegance to the space. The best part is that it can be sanded, sealed and polished to retain its original look. However it is not moisture-resistant and is prone to a termite attack.   WPC Decking

Tip: Since natural wood is expensive, one can create wall panels with plywood and finish it with a layer veneer or laminate which resembles the look of natural wood.

MDF or composite wood is a budget-friendly material because it is manufactured by combining small pieces of wood and resins under high heat and pressure. The biggest advantage of using MDF is that it replicates the look of natural wood. Since MDF is a flexible material, one can achieve interesting patterns, designs and textures on it.  The panels can be finished in various options like paint, Duco paint, metallic finish and so on. Never use MDF wall panelling on a damp wall or a wall with seepage issues because MDF has the tendency to disintegrate after swelling in the presence of moisture.

These can be fabricated in different materials like natural or synthetic fabrics, leather, leatherette and velvet. The advantage is that it adds softness to the decor and also provides good sound insulation. Additionally one can create tufted upholstered panels by stitching the upholstery with an underlying filling and achieving distinct geometric patterns. Some of the most popular types of tufting include biscuit, blind, diamond and channel tufting.

PVC panels are manufactured with polyvinyl chloride. Its waterproof nature makes it highly suitable for moisture-laden areas like the kitchen and bathrooms. These panels are very easy to install, are hygienic, and do not attract dust. Its non-porous surface does not promote the growth of mould or mildew either. These are available in multiple colours and as 3D panels which add a lot of pattern, texture and depth to a space.

Impart a feeling of lightness and spaciousness into your home with glass panels. Clear glass, stained glass, lacquered glass and frosted glass panels are becoming extremely popular because they impart a sleek and minimalist look.  Mirror panels can be used to create the illusion of extra space and are ideal for narrow hallways and foyers because they cast reflections which give the space a visually bigger look.
